Smoothies save the day

Late nights, early mornings, deadlines, work-outs, school, commitments, errands, events… Life can be crazily busy, and it’s not always easy to make time to eat well and take care of your health. We’ve all read the articles; we’ve all heard the words of caution: don’t skip breakfast, eat plenty of vegetables and fruits, increase your fibre intake, avoid fatty and processed foods, make sure you stay hydrated… It can get really complicated – or it can be amazingly simple: you can do it all with a smoothie.

A smoothie is a creamy blended drink made of any combination of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, proteins, superfoods, and a liquid like water, coconut milk, or soy milk. They’re one of the easiest ways to take in nutrients and proteins, as they don’t require any cooking time and are conveniently portable when you’re on the run.

The fact that smoothies can pack such a nutritious punch while being so quick to prepare is a definite plus for people on the go. It just takes a minute to blend a smoothie, and there are a wide variety of ingredient combinations and flavours that you can enjoy. And with services like SmoothiesGo that prepare, pre-package, and deliver your ingredients for you, things just get that much easier! Whether it’s for a quick breakfast, a post-workout boost, a healthy snack, or to replace a missed meal, you can always get all the nutrition and energy you need with the right choice of a nutrient-rich smoothie.

Specialists recommend that we eat an average of 2 to 3 servings of fruits and 5 to 7 servings of vegetables every day. That can be overwhelming to plan, and truth be told, some people just don’t like vegetables all that much! Smoothies are a quick and easy way to increase your daily fruit and vegetable intake by turning them into a delicious milkshakey treat, which makes smoothies a practical and accessible way for children and adults to include an impressive amount of fruits and vegetables in their diet.

Beyond providing key nutrients we all need, smoothies are also surprisingly filling, thanks in large part to their fibre content. As a result, they help manage your appetite, stabilize blood sugar, and increase energy levels. Since they help you feel satisfied, they can also fend off cravings and keep you from eating unhealthy snack alternatives. And of course, since the ingredients are blended with water or other liquids, they help keep you hydrated, making them an ideal choice for after workouts or while you’re on a hike.

It’s important to remember, though, that not all smoothies are created equal: many store-bought versions have a ton of added sugars, preservatives, or other additives. Make sure your smoothie is 100% natural so you can be sure it’s 100% healthful. The best smoothies are made with local, unprocessed, healthy whole foods, with no added sugars, flavours, or preservatives. And if your smoothie is supplemented with vitamins, minerals, and omega-3s – ideally coming right from whole ingredients – all the better! That way, they’ll help you minimise stress and inflammation, boost your metabolism and brain function, and keep your entire immunity system healthy, without taking precious time to prepare.

It’s all too true that life can get busy to the point of feeling out of control. But you don’t have to eat mindlessly – or not eat at all – just because life is so hectic that you barely have time to think. Smoothies can be part of the answer, providing a quick and simple way to take care of your health and feel great inside and out. Taking care of yourself and your family can take just a minute. Have a healthy, satisfying smoothie. It’s exactly the fast food you need!
